Birding and research

Next to working on my photography when going on inspirational and exciting trips, I also spend a lot of my time in the Netherlands on birding, ecological work and research ventures.

I'm excited to share more about these major turning points in my life.

  • A few years after I started my passion in nature photography, I also discovered the world of birding. This other hobby, closely intertwined with photography, has grown over the years. I began documenting my bird observations and learning more about all kind of Dutch birds. Next to photography, I can convidentily say I consider myself a passionate birder and photographer alike.

  • Of course, one of the first things a birder does is tracking all the species he has seen by making lists. Currently I’m tracking my:

    • Dutch lifelist: 218 species

    • World lifelist: 223 species

    • Self-found list: 186

    • Province Groningen list: 197

  • After graduating from my IT degree, I decided to work on trying to turn my passion into my profession. I enrolled for the bachelor's degree in animal management for september 2025, with the hope of specializing in wildlife management. To already add to my future career, I decided to work as a bat and swift researcher in the research season of 2025 (may-july), and remain picking up some volunteer work for Sovon Bird Research Netherlands, mostly concentrated around terns.
